UNIT TITLE:

Should We Edit our genes?

We have the technology - it's called CRSPR Cas 9, and it could cure AIDs, cancer, solve world hunger, and help us overcome nearly every major problem we face as a species.

So what's the worry?

The answer is in the study of ethics - right and wrong.  Many modern advances that saved thousands depended on experiments that ignored people's humanity; one woman, Henrietta Lacks, had her insides removed and treatments from doctors that ultimately killed her.

In this unit, you'll explore how her story provides a perspective on how technological advances without ethical rules are not a historical problem, but an immediate one.
