UNIT TITLE:
Are people born knowing what's Right?
Good vs. evil. Right vs. wrong.
Do we come with it built-in, or is it just a function of how we're raised? Is there any objective "right" or "wrong," or does it just come down to culture and society?
In this unit, you'll start by looking at the theories of an ancient Greek philosopher: Plato. Plato argued that people are born with perfect, "ideal" concepts in their minds - perfect beauty, perfect justice, etc. - and that everything they do is an attempt to reach them. We'll compare his theories to some modern neuroscience to find out how much we're born with - and whether what we're born with is actually, objectively "moral" ...
... or not.
