Yes, it's an offensive question - but you may actually think they do without realizing it.

In the U.S., we collectively like to believe in an "American Dream" - that with hard work, anyone can "pull themselves up" and make a good living, even becoming wealthy.  But if that's true, then it implies that anyone who ISN'T - anyone who is struggling to make ends meet - must not be trying hard enough; and that anyone wealthy must have earned it.

But is that really true?  In this unit, you'll investigate the roots of poverty, segregation, and the effects of income inequity.
